WINC - Women In Craigmillar

Women In Craigmillar Logo

WINC is run in association with CDBA as a membership organisation aimed at promoting, co-ordinating and representing the interests of local businesswomen from within the Craigmillar Business Community. Our plan is to promote good business practice, invite guest speakers, showcase individual businesses and encourage networking and business to business trade.

WINC aims to provide support and guidance to help increase confidence whilst making new contacts in a friendly environment. The meetings allow women to come together to share their experiences and aspirations for future ventures whilst gaining support from each other. For more information with regards to WINC please contact Nikki Kidd on 0131 661 8888 or e-mail info@cdba.org.uk

WINC EVENT

Another Successful WINC event took place on Tuesday 5th June 2007 at the offices of Cre8te. We were joined by stand up Comedienne Susan Morrison who is in a class of her own when it comes to quick-fire wit. Susan performs solo acts and hosts a number of different gigs throughout Edinburgh and Glasgow and features regularly as a compere in Edinburgh’s stand comedy club. Susan is a frequent contributor to BBC Radio Scotland. In 2006, she joined talk107, the first all-talk radio station outside London, as the co-presenter of The Morning Show.

The evening commenced with Susan interviewing Michelle McLoughlin of Healthier Options, Michelle supplied the catering for the evening which all agreed was delicious.

Healthier Options is a new catering business which promotes healthy eating options it was funded by the CBIP. Michelle approached the CBIP with an idea for starting her own healthy eating options business. Michelle’s ideas stemmed from her work with children and being made aware of the poor eating habits in both adults and children through lack of knowledge.

Michelle plans to promote healthy options throughout Edinburgh and the Lothians to all age groups through schools and local projects or on a one to one basis. Michelle will cater for business buffets, parties, christening and weddings.

Throughout the interview it was interesting to hear that adults are more resistant to change than children and men are harder to convert than women. For more information contact Michelle on 07957725116.

WINC was also joined by Karen Watts a Dance Consultant who introduced the group to the history of Classical Indian Dance. Karen involved the group in learning Indian dance moves and their meaning which was very educational and highly entertaining.

Karen began training with dance school Dance Ihayami in 2002 and is now one of their dance teachers. Karen also runs their outreach programme. Karen teaches Indian Classical Dance to school children in Edinburgh and the Lothians, her hope is to have a Classical Dance School of her own in the future.

WINC would like to thank all who attended the event and a special thanks to Susan Morrison for her continued support.
