Opportunities
Shell STEP - OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUR BUSINESS - JULY/ AUGUST 2005
Through Shell Technology Enterprise Programme (STEP), Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and CBIP we are able to offer local businesses graduate placements, in a wide range of disciplines, at a subsidised cost.
The help takes place from 28th June to 20th August (for 8 weeks) and gives your company the benefits of dedicated, full-time attention to a project(s) specified by you. The STEP programme is designed to help small and medium sized businesses develop their potential by utilising the high level of skilled undergraduates at an affordable cost. STEP students have helped thousands of companies by setting up IT systems, writing marketing plans, researching the feasibility of a new product or service, creating websites & e-commerce facilities, design and creating company literature, researching export opportunities and automating accounts procedures. This is by no means an exhaustive list – we have a large range of committed students registered, and many projects are suitable.
What do you do now?
The process for you has been kept as simple and time efficient as possible. You will need to:
- Speak to CBIP to assess suitability for the proposed work
- Complete a brief application form outlining your project requirements
- Interview a shortlist of candidates to select those most suitable
- Brief the applicant on the project
- Carry out an assessment of the participant on completion of the project
What do you get in return?
Dedicated full time, hands on assistance from someone with up-to-date training related to your specific project
A final report detailing project solutions
Action plan and ongoing assistance to implement change
Cost effective solution to your individual business needs
Publicity and the chance of being a regional or National winner
What do we do?
Assistance in designing your specific programme
Management of STEP process
Recruitment and pre-selection of suitable participants
Payroll and personnel function
Training the participant in project, time management and report writing skills
Organise an awards ceremony and identify which project from Edinburgh and Lothian will go forward to the Scottish Final (if confidentiality is an issue we will obviously recognise this)
